www.melfisher.org/museum.htm
The Society's collection was founded by Mel Fisher, who donated more than $20 million in treasure and historical objects to the museum. This included a wide range of artifacts, from gold and silver bars; over 4,000 silver coins; a gold chalice, known as the "poison cup"; and a six-inch gold cross, set with some of the finest emeralds in the world, to swords, guns, pottery, and personal effects from the 1622 fleet. Since that time the Fisher family and many other donors have given the Society gifts of objects from these wrecks.

Our operations have been largely supported through visitor donations since their inception in 1982. Over 200,000 people visit the museum each year and is the most-visited non-profit historical museum in Florida.

Special projects, exhibitions, and excavations have received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities; the Institute of Museum and Library Services; the Bureau of Historical Museums, Division of Historical Resources, Florida Department of State; the Florida Humanities Council; the James L. and John S. Knight Foundation; and the Newmanís Own Foundation. Major Corporate funding has been provided by the General Motors Corporation and Robb, Peck, McCooey, Inc.

Major endowment funding has been received from the Fisher family, RPM Nautical Foundation, Inc., John P. Evans Foundation and Rodel Charitable Foundation of Key West.
